Taking a Trip Down Memory Lane
Yes, something for everyone: old record, books, photos! Lot of thirteen. 1) Ever heard of Ace Recording Studio in Reno. Here is a Man on the Street Interview with Private Jack Hursh back from World War II. Interviewer Ray Bohannan was a radio personality at KATO in Reno. Best I can tell this recording studio was associated with KATO which was located on Virginia Street where California Avenue intersects it. ’78. Circa late 1940’s. 2) 16” x 11” photograph of the Reno Hot Springs 9 ½ miles south of Reno on the Carson Highway. The hot springs are no longer used for swimming and healing purposes, but you can see a plant that uses the hot water to generate electricity now. Sepia type finish. 3) 14” x 11” photograph of the Diner at the corner of Second and Lake Street. 4) 14” x 11” photograph of a parade heading down Lake street. The Lorain Hotel, the Reno Garage, the Columbo Hotel and the famous Basque Toscano Hotel and Restaurant can be seen I the background. 5) 14” x 11” photograph of the Reo and Chevrolet dealership in Reno. This is a very early 1900’s photo as the iron bridge across the Truckee River can be seen in the background. 6) 10” x 8” photograph of Brown Motors, the Plymouth and De Soto dealership. “U-DRIVE” rental also in picture. 7) Ad for Revada Sales Company from a newspaper of magazine. Dealers for Chevrolet. Phone 777! 8) A cloth to clean glasses from Poulsen Optometrists at 122 West Second Street. Circa 1950’s or 1960’s. Too rough to use; I know I tried it. 9) 1923 Reno Chamber of Commerce pamphlet extolling the virtues of Reno. 10) 1937 University of Alumni Bulletin. 11) Reno a Land of Charm, a larger, grander effort to the Reno Chamber of Commerce to entice people to the city. 1930. 12) Reprint of the 1888 General History and Resources of Washoe County, Nevada. Compiled by the principal of Wadsworth Schools, N. A. Hummel. 13) Remembering Reno by Donnelyn Curtis. Although a new publication, this book looks back at the city. Magnificent resources for the amateur historian, great treasures for the collector, fabulous memories for those of us who have lived here!
