TWO INTERESTING NINTH PLATE TINTYPE PORTRAITS.
American, 2nd half-19th century. Full-length, seated portrait of a stern-looking gentleman holding a Winchester Model 1890 rifle, in a paper case. Together with a portrait of a bearded man standing by his horse in front of a barn. Accompanying newsclipping (dated May 9, 1864) suggests that the man purchased the horse at an auction of "condemned" US Cavalry horses. Paper case.
