TSIOLKOVSKY, KONSTANTIN
(1857 - 1935) Pioneering Russian scientist and rocket designer who laid out the basic principles of modern space flight. Outstanding, early, very rare A.Ms.S. on rocket travel, 2pp. 8vo., [n.p., but ca. 1920 - 1930], two full pages in his hand discussing of his research notes on rocket travel, adorned with a hand-drawn sketch showing rocket fuel burning and launching a rocket, with an astronaut within it! In small part: ""...The fuel chamber and its addition will feel the pressure of the gases...The tube where the products of the explosion will go spreading permanently and become colder because of transferring the hot temperature to kinetic [energy] which gives movement to the spaceship...Rough estimation lets us assume the speed of 30 meters a second...the weight will be three times greater than the earth weight..."". On the verso appears a hand-written table which gives speed measurements. At bottom, Tsiolkovsky notes the estimates, and signed ""K. Tsiolkovsky"". Slight toning and wear to edges, else in very good condition. A most rare and unusual space item!
