TSIOLKOVSKY, KONSTANTIN
269. KONSTANTIN TSIOLKOVSKY (1857 - 1935) Pioneering Russian scientist and rocket designer who laid out the basic principles of modern space flight. Outstanding, early, very rare A.Ms.S. on rocket travel, signed "K. Tsiolkovsky" in the text, 1pp. small 4to. on a thin paper, [n.p., n.d. but ca. 1920-1930], his notes and a complex pair of sketches of what appears to be a rocket engine. The first sketch shows a cutaway of the mechanism while the other, simpler, drawing appears to illustrate how a pair of these engines would work together to produce thrust. Not translated, but the notes undoubtedly describe the operations of the engine. A very rare document. Margins uneven with some light soiling, weak with a partial tear along fold, but otherwise in very good condition. With letter of authenticity issued by the International Charitable Foundation for Support of Russian Cosmonauts. $1,500-2,000
