<B>TOM LEA (1907-2001)</B></I><BR><I>Canitas with the Bull Bandolero,</B></I> 1943<BR>Ink and watercolor<BR>9in. x 11in.<BR>Signed, dated, and titled lower right<BR><BR>After World War II, Tom Lea was commissioned to paint a series of canvases about the development of the cattle industry in the new world. While doing research in Mexico, Lea became intrigued with bullfighting, which led him to produce two works on the subject, <I>A Bullfight Manual For Spectators</B></I> and <I>The Brave Bulls.</B></I> Tom Lea illustrated the books with his own drawings and also painted bullfighting themes in oil and watercolor.<BR><BR>This fine watercolor was given as a present from Tom Lea to William Barnes, who became friends with Tom Lea during World War II.<BR><BR>Provenance:<BR>Acquired from the artist by William Barnes<BR><BR> <B>Condition Report:</B> Excellent condition.
