TINTYPE OF ID'D YANK WITH SABRE AND REMINGTON .44. A quarter-plate tintype of an effeminate-looking trooper boasting a classic saber up, pistol down pose. A contemporary slip of paper identifies this subject as "John L. Harley, NY." No such name or permutation thereof could be located that dovetails to cavalry service. Having spent some time with the image we are left to wonder whether this isn't in fact a young woman in uniform? The image has condition problems ranging from slight scuffing, some minor irregular bends, and most significant some noticeable dents from the back of the plate that become "bubbles" on the front. The tintype is housed in a damaged black gutta percha case. PLEASE NOTE: THIS LOT WILL BE SOLD ON EBAY LIVE AUCTIONS BETWEEN 4:00-5:00pm EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME ON MAY 10, 2002.
