TINTYPE OF CIVIL WAR AFRICAN-AMERICAN ENLISTED MAN IN GREATCOAT. This unvarnished sixth-plate tintype recorded an unidentified private of short stature wearing a coarse textured infantry pattern overcoat. His import .69 caliber musket, at relax-arms, is nearly the same height. The kepi bears an obsolete M1832 brass eagle plate but no regimental numerals or letters. The suggestion has been made that this is an African-American soldier. The image is in EXC condition with superior lighting creating an almost luminescent quality. Housed in a simple black gutta percha case with minor corner damage. PLEASE NOTE: THIS LOT WILL BE SOLD ON EBAY LIVE AUCTIONS BETWEEN 4:00-5:00pm EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME ON MAY 10, 2002.
