TILGHMAN, LLOYD
(1816 - 1863) Confederate brigadier general who surrendered Fort Henry, later commanded at Corinth and Vicksburg, killed in action at Champion's Hill. Rare war-date partly-printed D.S. "Lloyd Tilghman" adding rank on CSA Estimate for Funds form, 1p. large 4to., "Field", Feb. 7, 1862 concerning the payment of $61,806 for the last quarter of 1861 to a Confederate legion consisting of the 4th Mississippi, 30th and 50th Tennessee, plus artillery and cavalry companies. At bottom Tilghman writes: "Examined & approved Lloyd Tilghman Brig. Gen. CSA Comdg.". Two tiny holes in blank area, lightly toned horizontal bar where two pieces of paper were joined to make this document, else very good.
