TILES FROM HITLER'S BATHROOM AT THE BERGHOF
TILES FROM HITLER'S BATHROOM AT THE BERGHOF
Lot of two 6" x 6" pale green glazed ceramic tiles taken from Adolf Hitler's private bathroom at the Berghof by an American major at war's end. Each of the tiles shows some slight crazing to the finish and one bears a tiny edge chip, otherwise both are fine. Both tiles are German made and so stamped on the reverse. They were recovered by Major L. H. Dice in July, 1945 and he inscribed the reverse of each: "Removed from Hitler's house Berchtesgaden, Germany July 1945 by Maj. L. H. Dice". Dice was a pilot with Headquarters Group Air Transport Command and sent the tiles to his home in Great Neck, N.Y. They were sold by his granddaughter along with other personal items in 2015. Also included are five photographs of Dice, the shattered Berghof, and Berchtesgaden.
