The film COSH BOY, directed by Lewis Gilbert, was released in London in 1952. The main character in the film lives with his war-widowed mother. With his band of juvenile delinquent friends, he robs old ladies and falls into committing ever-more-serious crimes. A “cosh” is a short heavy rod usually of steel or lead, enclosed in a softer material such as leather, and used as a hand weapon. It is known as a “blackjack” in North American English.
