THURMAN MUNSON (1947-1979). Burly, hardball catcher who dropped out of high school to start for the New York Yankees in 1970. Voted MVP in 1976, Munson won three Golden Gloves, was six times All-Star, and named the Yankees’ first team captain since Lou Gehrig. Two signed postcard photographs, color, 3½"x5½" bust portraits in uniform. Each boldly signed across image. Fine example. Rare. In 1973 Munson admitted to the media that he did not sign many autographs. He was the first major leaguer in 13 years—and only the second catcher—to hit .300 and drive in 100 runs for three straight seasons. He tragically died in plane crash at age 32. Very desirable autograph.
