EDWIN D. MORGAN (1811-1883) Governor of New York from 1859 to 1862, U.S. Senator and Union major general. War-date A.L.S., 1p. 4to., New York, Dec. 29, 1863, to Secretary of War Edwin Stanton: "...I have the honor to present to you Col. J. Fred Pierson, late Colonel of the 1st Regmt NY Vol. Col. Pierson has been requested by an influential committee in the city to proceed at once to the AP and to endeavor to induce the men now in the field to re-enlist...". Endorsed on verso by brigadier general JAMES ALLEN HARDIE (1823-1876) who served on the staffs of McClellan, Burnside, and Hooker. Also present: AMOS BEEBE EATON (1806-1877) Union brigadier general, L.S., 2pp. 4to., New York, Dec. 29, 1863 to Col. Pierson, asking him to convince the enlisted soldiers, who have their terms expiring, to re-enlist in the New York regiments. Two pieces, fine.
