<B>THREE PLATINUM NUGGETS</B></I><BR> <I>Konder Massif, Far Eastern Siberia, Russia</B></I><BR>More precious than gold, natural platinum nuggets are extremely rare and hard to obtain. The reason for this is twofold: only two locations in the world produce platinum in any significant quantity (China and Russia); and because most of the natural nuggets are small in size, they are often overlooked by the automated machines that carry out the mining. Occasionally, however, miners will sift through the extracted ore by hand and discover treasures such as the three pieces offered here. All three exhibit the characteristic silver/grey coloring of the metal, and two, in a highly pleasing aesthetic contrast, boast the naturally occurring black patination of chromite/magnetite inclusions.
