Rare war-date A.D.S. as brigadier general, 1p. oblong 8vo., "Head Quarters Shelly's Brigade", Booneville, Mo., Oct. 11, 1864 to Gov. Claiborne Jackson. In part: "…I would try to get to see you but am needed every moment with the Brigade. I know you are please with what you hear of the manner of my Brigade conducted affairs at Booneville - although I hear this morning of some outrages that I will try to have ferreted out, and the guilty parties found. Please send me my saddlebags by the bearer…I did propose making a speech to the people of Booneville but do not know whether it will be permitted…" Fine condition.
