THOMAS TINGEY ALS, "Thos Tingey", 2pp, Aug 23, 1824, 4to, Washington Navy Yard, to General Henry Dearborn (1751-1829) in Boston, nice content re Lafayette's return to the United States. In part, "...announces your safe arrival in Boston...I felicitate your return to your native land...Your arrival is propitious for you to join in the country's joy, in welcoming again to our shores the General La Fayette, one of your illustrious companions in arms, in the War of the Revolution, the occasion seems justly to excite general hilarity thro' out the land: all hearts expanding to give him a personal greeting to the enjoyment of that liberty which he so conspicuously aided in obtaining..." With attached integral address leaf, completed in Tingey's hand. Marquis de Lafayette (1757-1834), served as a Major General in American Revolutionary War. He returned to the United States in 1824, by invitation of President James Monroe, making an epochal tour of the country. Lafayette's grave in Paris is covered with earth from Bunker Hill.
