THOMAS MCAULEY
(1778 - 1862) American radical Presbyterian clergyman who became pastor of the Rutgers Street Church, New York City, in 1822. A leader in the general assembly at which the old-time adherents took action, resulting in a division of the church. Founder and first president of the Union Theological Seminary, 1835. Fine and important partly-printed D.S. 1p. 4to., June 3, 1828, a marriage certificate that reads, in part: "...I do hereby certify that in conformity with the rites and usage of the Presbyterian Church...I have this day united Daniel R. Rutgers and Ann Hoyt, in the presence of several witnesses...". A nice association piece linking two of the most powerful New York religious figures of the nineteenth century. Fold tears expertly mended, overall very good.

Estimate: $100 - 150.
