Thelwall (1764-1834), political reformer, devoted himself to the treatment of speech impediments and was the author of the first book on mental deficiency, ‘A Letter to Henry Cline’, 1810. (Hunter & Macalpine). At Edinburgh during 1804 he had a fierce paper war with Francis Jeffrey , whom he suspected of inspiring some uncharitable remarks about him in the third number of the ‘Edinburgh Review'.ALSO WITH THIS LOT: (1) MOON ( Wm. ) ).
