THE SIGNING OF THE AIR FORCE ACADEMY BILL
DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (1890 - 1969) 34th President of the United States, Supreme Commander of Allied forces in Europe during World War II and largely responsible for the successful invasion on D-Day. Historic S.P. 12" x 9 1/2" [sight] b/w, shows Eisenhower, Secretary of the Air Force HAROLD E. TALBOTT, General THOMAS D. WHITE, and DEWEY SHORT at the signing of the Air Force Academy Bill on Apr. 1, 1954 at the White House. Signed by each at blank bottom margin. Nathan F. Twining, USAF Chief of Staff is also present but does not sign. The U.S. Air Force became an independent military department in 1947, but it was not until 1954 that the Bill establishing its own training was signed. Construction of the Colorado Springs training facility began that spring. Simply matted and set into a black frame without glass. Explanatory sheet affixed to mat, should be reframed. Very good.
