THE ROSSETTIS
(1830 - 1894) Italian-English author, one of the most important women poets of the nineteenth century, the sister of DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI (1828 - 1882), poet, painter and designer and WILLIAM ROSSETTI (1829-1919), art critic. A grouping of three uncommon A.L.S. by members of the Rossetti family, the first by CHRISTINA ROSETTI, "Christina G. Rossetti" 1p. 8vo., [n.p., n.d.], on black-bordered mourning letterhead to her sister Lucy Madox Rossetti, in part: "...Thank you for thinking my austere presence would be 'nice'. I hope you and Olive will enjoy Sutton, tho' we must not expect it to charm like the Scotch Cakes. I am sending on your missive to Miss Guest to her cousin Miss Sadler...". A central fold, otherwise very good. With an A.L.S. by DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI, "D. G. Rossetti" 3pp. 8vo., [n.p.], "Friday", [n.d.], to English painter Ford Madox Brown, in part: "...The prospect of at least a couple of solitary evenings induces me to bore you (without hesitation) as to whether you could come down tomorrow...either to dinner at 8, or after that. I was glad to hear from Shields that you have really accomplished your third work...". A typed transcription of the first page has been pasted at top, costing the salutation, otherwise good condition. Also an A.L.S. by WILLIAM MICHAEL ROSSETTI, 2pp. 8vo., Regent's Part, Aug. 16, 1900, written to the Library of Burlington, and explaining the contents of the other two letters. A typed transcript is pasted to top of first page, with no loss of text, otherwise very good. Three pieces.
