 THE OLD SOUTH PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM
A charming ca. 1918 Jefferson County, Tn. snapshot family photo album showing a close connection with the local black population through many affectionate and candid photos. Many of these images were taken while the family played during many hazy summer afternoons with their black family friends. Included in the album are those of a white girl with black boy holding a Fourth National Confederate flag; a black boy with white girl in a pumpkin patch; blacks and whites mocking the camera; a black man milking a cow; an amazing swimming hole picture with one black boy pointing towards a white child by using his middle finger, all this, along with boys using long sticks as personal appendages. There are many more mixed race photos in the album not mentioned but just as interesting as those above. Over one hundred photos housed in a period black bound 5 5/8" x 7 5/8" album with several loose letters written by the children and a lock of blond hair. A great piece of Southern history!

Estimate: $150 - 200.
