THE MARK OF ZORRO

One Sheet (27" x 41"); Style A
Very Fine- on Linen
20th Century Fox, 1940

This exquisite image seldom appears at auction, and such a splendid copy would serve as the focal point of any collection.

This stunning one-sheet poster features the iconic image of Zorro's blade cutting through the film's title and credits. Prior to linen-backing, there was a small chip on the upper left horizontal fold border, slightly encroaching into the orange artwork. The folds and crossfolds have undergone restoration, and the borders have been airbrushed. The poster now looks magnificent and would be a valuable addition to any classic cinema collection.

When Johnston McCulley wrote "The Curse of Capistrano" for All-Story Weekly in 1919, little did he know that his creation, the masked hero Zorro, would become so popular. The story was picked up by Douglas Fairbanks, who saw it as the perfect vehicle to showcase his talent as a swashbuckling hero, and he turned it into the silent film classic "The Mark of Zorro" in 1920. Two decades later, 20th Century Fox decided to make a remake of the film and cast Tyrone Power in the titular role of Don Diego Vega who takes on the disguise of Zorro to protect the people of Alta California.
