THE MARK OF ZORRO

One Sheet (27" x 41"); Green Style, Stone Litho
Very Fine- on Linen
United Artists, 1920

This "Green Style" stone litho classic swashbuckler poster has been professionally restored to address slight fold wear, a tear in the photographic image of Fairbanks on the left side, small pinholes in the corners, and a tiny chip on the lower left corner. There is minor fold touch-up (but not within the two faces of Fairbanks) and touch-up to address minor chipping at the lower center point and airbrush work to the borders. The poster displays magnificently.

This genre-defining silent film swashbuckler adventure was the first screen version of The Mark of Zorro. Based on the 1919 story, The Curse of Capistrano, by Johnston McCulley, which first introduced the masked hero, Zorro, the screenplay was adapted by Fairbanks (as "Elton Thomas") and Eugene Miller. The film was produced by Fairbanks for his own production company, Douglas Fairbanks Pictures Corporation, and was the first film released through United Artists, the company formed by Fairbanks, Mary Pickford, Charlie Chaplin, and D. W. Griffith.
