THE LADY IN QUESTION

Three Sheet (41" x 80")
Fine+ on Linen
Columbia, 1940

This striking and luminous image from an early Haworth title was printed across two panels. It has been expertly linen-backed to address fold wear and cross-fold chipping, primarily in the upper larger panel. These areas do not detract from the image, and the poster displays magnificently.

In this film, Chaplin delivers a powerful critique of Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, fascism, antisemitism, and the Nazi regime. At the time of its release, the United States was still neutral and at peace with Nazi Germany, making the film's bold stance even more significant. Chaplin plays dual roles: a tyrannical fascist dictator and a humble, persecuted Jewish barber.
