THE GENERAL

Three Sheet (41" x 80"); Stone Litho
Fine+ on Linen; Artwork by "Hap" Hadley
United Artists, 1926

This is the only known copy of this poster, which was last seen at an auction about 30 years ago. It is a magnificent large-format poster, often regarded as the masterpiece of Keaton's career.

This beautiful large-format poster features wonderful caricatures of Buster Keaton and Marion Mack aboard Keaton's beloved locomotive as designed by "Hap" Hadley. This example has been linen-backed with expert professional restoration to address border wear with tears and chips, general fold and crossfold wear with chips, pinholes, two border tears leading into the "B" in "BUSTER," small tears near the upper and lower borders and scattered creases and small tears in the background. The borders have been airbrushed and this unique and charming poster displays beautifully and would be the cornerstone of any classic comedy collection.

In one of the greatest comedies ever made, Buster Keaton brought his dry sense of humor to the story of a Confederate train, "The General," being taken over by Union spies. It's up to Keaton to rescue his beloved train and his beloved girl, Annabelle Lee (Marion Mack), who's also stuck on the train. Keaton was the master of incredible stunts, and this film captured plenty of moments for Keaton to test his abilities.
