THE CURE

One Sheet (27" x 41"); Stone Litho
Good on Linen
Mutual, 1917

This remarkable artifact was produced using stone lithography and truly stands out. It is thought to be the only existing copy of this poster.

The poster has been expertly restored, although it had several issues beforehand. Approximately six inches on the right side of the poster were missing, and the tear extended down through the "A" of "Specials," just grazing the woman's face and continuing down to the "P" of "Chaplin" and the "E" of "The Cure." The title has been retouched, as well as a few chips in the remaining border. The poster now presents very well.

"The Cure" is a short comedy film written and directed by Charlie Chaplin. In the film, Chaplin portrays a drunkard who checks into a health spa to sober up. However, his suitcase filled with alcohol hinders his efforts. Throughout the short film, he manages to irritate a large man and charm a young woman, which is typical of Chaplin's characters.
