The Battle of Bunker Hill (or more accurately Breed’s Hill) was the first pitched battle of the American Revolution; while the British did take their objectives, the victory was pyrrhic - it did nothing to relieve the siege of Boston, and cost a large number of troops. Indeed, after the battle, British General Henry Clinton remarked in his diary that "A few more such victories would have surely put an end to British dominion in America."
