THE BAD SLEEP WELL

Japanese STB (20" x 56"); Country-of-Origin
Near Mint Folded
Toho, 1960

This rare Country-of-Origin poster from Akira Kurosawa's crime drama was printed on two panels with each exhibiting a light horizontal fold and a very small crease on the corner of one of the panels. This example is in outstanding unrestored condition.

After working with Toho Studios from 1943 to 1959, Akira Kurosawa formed Kurosawa Productions. "The Bad Sleep Well" was Kurosawa's first independent film. Starring Toshiro Mifune and combining elements of crime, noir, and even Shakespeare, this film takes aim at exposing the corruption of post-war corporate Japan. Francis Ford Coppola cited "The Bad Sleep Well" as one of his favorite films and credited the opening sequence as the inspiration for the wedding scene in his legendary film "The Godfather."
