[American Numismatic Association]. Green, Ben G. THIRTY-SECOND AUCTION SALE. COINS, MEDALS, PAPER MONEY, ENCASED POSTAGE STAMPS, ETC. VARIOUS PROPERTIES. Chicago, Sept. 3, 1907. 8vo, original printed card covers. 16 pages; 785 lots. Original printed green card covers just a trifle faded; two original bid sheets laid in. Fine. The first ANA auction sale (ex 1985 Cal Wilson sale, with lot card, where it sold for $4 before becoming widely known as the first ANA auction). The following printed note appears on the title verso: “This sale will be held in Columbus, O., during the American Numismatic Association Convention, it being the wish of the officers to afford visiting members an opportunity for attendance at a public Coin Auction. An endeavor has been made to list a little of everything in the numismatic field.” P. Scott Rubin’s article in the ANA Centennial Anthology discusses the circumstances behind this inaugural ANA sale. Ex Kolbe Sale 56, lot 147: we have not offered a solo copy since.
