Pat H. Martin’s Co., Randals Regiment, Texas Cavalry, write to Miss Jane Carroll in Shelbyville, TX, on the same sheet. War-date ALS, 2pp, legal folio, Lewisville, AK, Aug 19 & 20, 1862. Her brother, T.N. Carroll, somewhat ungrammatically, writes in part, “...there is orders for this regiment to take up the line of march to Little Rock but I don’t much believe that we will go very far...for there is a good deal of sickness in our Regiment...generally the measels...bin seven deaths in the Regiment since we left Shreveport...be shure to tell the galls that I am coming back to Shelby County to get myself a wife...” More. On verso, John Price briefly writes informing the family that “I am well at present and I am in hopes that these few lines may find you both well etc. My health has improved ever since I left home...” Boldly penned and signed by both. Light toning; folds; partial separations with no paper loss; o/w VG.
