To which is added, a postscript, containing some remarks on a pamphlet, entitled, Observations on a separation of the Methodists from the established church. By Onesimus. Terry, antimonian artist and engraver, active in London at the end of the 18C, best known for a dictionary of monograms and for a book of devices for jewellers and enamel painters. M'Culla, in his "The Bank Note, or, engraver carv'd ; in answer to Onesimus, the ecclesiastical state tinker...", 1806, identifies him as a 'minister of darkness' in Clare Court, Drury Lane.ALSO WITH THIS LOT: (1) [WESTON ( Edward )]. The Englishman directed in the choice of his religion. A new edition, corrected. London : Printed for John Rivington … , 1773. 60-pages, large 12mo, recent paper wrapper : a very good copy. "[An Edition of this Book is printed on a larger Letter, Price One Shilling bound.]" on verso of title-page. First published 1729. ESTC locates just four copies of this 1773 edition : L, Lu : KU-S and MoU. All editions, except that of Boston, 1748, are each known by just a handful of copies. Weston (1703–70), government official and author, Townshend's secretary in 1729 when the latter became secretary of state for the north. When Townshend retired in 1730 Weston became under-secretary to his successor, Lord Harrington, and remained in that position until 1746. In November of that year Harrington went to Ireland as lord lieutenant and Weston accompanied him as chief secretary and privy councillor. He stayed in Ireland until 1751 and then, for reasons of health, went into retirement for ten years (ODNB).(2) HUSSEY ( Thomas ), Bp, FRS. FIRST EDITION, pages (6), 27, (1, blank), 10, with half title, 8vo, recent wrapper : a very good copy, inscribed on title in a contemporary hand "Mrs O'Kelly Eccles Str / Dublin". ESTC locates copies at L, O(2), Di / Ncd. Hussey(1746–1803), catholic bishop of Waterford and Lismore, born in Harristown, Co. Meath, educated at Seville, was appointed one of the chaplains to the Spanish ambassador in London. His time in the British capital placed him within an influential circle which included Wm Pitt, Charles James Fox, and Samuel Johnson.(3) BISSE ( Thomas ). Decency and order in publick worship recommended in three discourses, preached in the cathedral church of Hereford. London : Printed [by William Bowyer] for W. and J.
