Early A.L.S. 2pp. 4to. with integral holograph address leaf, Louisville, Apr. 9, 1819 to Col. George Gibson in Washington, in part: "<i>...Some time ago I took the liberty to recommend Lt. J. B. Clark of the 3rd Regt. to you...I was glad to find...that he had rec'd the appointment previous to my recommendation reaching you... Lt. Clark would be very much gratified if he could be attached to some southern station, as his constitution is not adapted to a northern climate...there has been no officer appointed commissary of subsistence, better qualified or who will discharge that duty, with more propriety...</i>". A few small glue stains eight letters of text, an ink spot here and there, silked with no effect whatsoever on legibility. Overall very good.<b>$1,500-2,000</b>
