Comments: Born in Yugoslavia in 1935, Itzchak Tarkay and his family survived the Mathausen concentration camp and immigrated to Israel after the war where he became the most celebrated decorative artist of his generation. He was educated at the Avni Institute of Fine Art, Tel Aviv. The inspiration of his work lies with the Ecole de Paris, but he created a new form of art and his rich, sensuous palette had bold modernistic use of composition that became a style that captured the imagination of the world. Tarkay's work has placed him as one of the most important artists in Europe today. Several books have been published about him and he has had over 30 exhibitions in Europe, the USA and Japan over the last several years. He is one of the handful of artists alive today who have become household names in the USA in their lifetime.
