Swimming fishes, ink and watercolour on paper; signed Tang Yun (Chinese, 1910-1993) and inscribed with one artist seal; hanging scroll; 87 x 46 cm. Tang Yun was a Chinese painter known for his flower-and-bird subjects, landscapes, and portraits. Tang employed traditional Chinese painting techniques in new way to produce lively works, characterized by their focus on the natural environment. Born in 1910 in Hangzhou, China, he served as an apprentice to a number of traditional artists in his hometown before moving to Shanghai in 1938. Here, the artist taught at the Xinhua Art Training School and the Shanghai Fine Art Training School. Tang died in 1993 in Shanghai, China. PROVENANCE: T. Ng Collection, Toronto
