T4 $50 1861. This smallest denomination Montgomery note is one of just 1,606 pieces originally issued, and with serial number 936 is a new addition to the census of approximately 155 survivors. This Very Fine example once had at least four cut-out cancellations, but the missing pieces have been expertly replaced and the designs redrawn, so well in fact that it requires close inspection to notice these restorations. Other minor repairs are present, including a corner repair and a closed split or two, but the overall appearance of the note is very nice. Although not strictly original, this nicely restored Montgomery $50 is ideal for a collector who needs to fill a hole in their CSA type set but doesn't want to take out a second mortgage.
