T4 $50 1861. This is an attractive Fine-Very Fine $50 with nice color and original paper surfaces. There is a small tape repair in the lower right-hand corner. The overall even wear also includes a penned issuance date of May 31, 1861. This is the lowest denomination of the four Confederate notes issued from the first Confederate capital of Montgomery. These notes were printed by the National Bank Note Company in New York City. The notes actually left New York harbor for the Confederacy as Federal agents were running down the dock attempting to confiscate them as enemy contraband.
From The George P.
