Patented in 1860. Blade and notch sights, Hartford address on barrel, engraved frame, smooth grips and "Fanny E Benedict" inscribed on the backstrap. In leatherette case marked "F.E. Benedict" on the lid, with brass and ivory ramrod. According to consignor research (copies provided), Fanny Benedict, later Fanny Severance, was the wife of Louis Severance, a founding member of the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey, and first secretary treasurer of the firm. Lining in case is tattered.
