The Hand is a fantastic original drawing by famed illustrator Gene Szafran. This work shows a spray paint can with rays of magenta shooting behind it. The can has a mysterious woman?s figure on it. A tightly rendered hand holds the can. The background is black causing the hand to pop out off of the paper. The work is framed in a wonderful contemporary sliver wood frame with an inner scalloped edge. A double mat gives depth to the image. The top mat is a royal blue and the bottom mat is a zinc white. Total size is 22 ½ by 17 inches. Born in Detroit Michigan, Gene Szafran became a noted illustrator for magazines including "Playboy," "Cosmopolitan," "Penthouse," "McCall's," "Fortune," and Bantam Books. He studied and later taught at the art school of the Society of Arts and Crafts in Detroit and also taught at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He then moved to Connecticut as a freelance artist and worked as an illustrator out of New York City. He has personal interests of photography and sculpture that he often incorporates into his illustrations. Recently he has struggled with Multiple Sclerosis.
