Gene Szafran (1941), ?The Green Dress? illustration, watercolor.

He studied and later taught at the Society of Arts and Crafts in Detroit and also taught at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He then moved to Connecticut as a freelance artist and worked as an illustrator out of New York City. He has personal interests of photography and sculpture that he often incorporates into his distinctive illustrations.
This is a very unique watercolor illustration. It?s very creative use of hard edges contrasted against it smooth gradation of color make this illustration very eye-catching. The exceptional composition allows the eye to flow smoothly from one object to the next. All three subjects grab your attention, without distracting from the other, a very difficult effect to master. The painting has an excellent use of negative space allowing edges to vanish without looking unnatural. This paintings is matted with a blue-green mat that compliments the colors in the painting and framed in a slim copper colored, aluminum frame. Very contemporary style painting and frame measuring 20.25? x 19.75?. Szafran?s artwork continues to increase in worth, making the purchase of his art a valuable investment
