Swandyke,CO - Summit County - c1890 - Swandyke Gold District Pamphlet :
Soft cover, 11 pages. The pamphlet was issued by the Colorado & Southern Railway, with T.E. Fisher, General Passenger Agent, Denver, Colorado, listed on the front and back covers. Printed by C.J. Kelly, Denver, with no publishing date noted. The text states that "nearly every one of the best mining districts of Colorado are reached by the Colorado & Southern Railway. In fact, many of the best known districts are served by no other line." The publication discusses the geological features, fissure veins, and existing claims and mines of the district. It also mentions the two town sites in the area, Old Town and Swandyke; opportunities for the investment of capital in the area, and how to get there. This area, between Georgetown and Breckenridge, around the headwaters of the Swan River, is located in Summit County, Colorado. The placer gold deposits of the county, with an estimated production of over $15,000,000 from 1859 to 1957, are substantially more than any other county. Most of this production was from the Blue River, Swan River, French Gulch, and their tributaries (Ref: Quarterly of the Colorado School of Mines, Book 1, Volume 69, #3, July 1974). Rare, stain on lower on lower right of front cover, otherwise very fine.
