Suspicion (RKO, 1941). Title Lobby Card and Lobby Card (11" X 14"). Following their successful collaboration in "Rebecca," Joan Fontaine and Alfred Hitchcock reteamed for this suspense thriller. Once again, a new marriage carries an ominous threat for Fontaine, whose innocent face Hitchcock enjoyed darkening with the shadows of predators. Cary Grant hardly makes as fearsome a presence as Judith Anderson's Mrs. Danvers, but his ingratiating charm somehow makes him more dangerous, making her suspicions dubious and forcing her to suppress her instinct to flee. Hitchcock has fun making the audience similarly waver. The title card has had the most minor restoration work performed to remove a censor stamp from the image area, but other than the stamp the card was Near Mint. You have to look very hard to perceive that the stamp was even there! The other lobby card has dirt smudges and small stains in the bottom border, but the image has held up well. Very Fine+.
