Suspicion (RKO, 1941). One Sheet (27" X 41"). Cary Grant romances Joan Fontaine in this Alfred Hitchcock thriller, but as with most Hitchcock films, their courtship only begins a descent into darker human emotions. Though charming, Grant appears to be a gold-digger of 1941, after Fontaine's family fortune. He tackles one failed scheme after another with associates of ill repute, but she remains steadfast. With the baffling death of Grant's business partner (Nigel Bruce, who could use the help of his own Dr. Watson), Fontaine concludes that Grant might actually be trying to dispose of her too. Hitchcock wanted to keep the original ending of the source book, but RKO intervened for fear that Cary Grant's star image might be tarnished. Restoration has repaired a few tears in the image area, replaced the left border and patched wear in the remaining border area. Aside from painted touch-ups of the fold lines, the image has maintained great condition, with a beautiful portrait of Grant and Fontaine. Fine- on Linen.
