Suspicion (RKO, 1941). Lobby Card (11" X 14"). Joan Fontaine received an Oscar for Best Actress -- the first and only acting award given to an Alfred Hitchcock film -- for her role as Lina McLaidlow. She suspects her new husband, Johnnie Aysgarth (Cary Grant), of attempting to murder her. Hitchcock originally intended to end the film with Lina's fears proven correct, that her husband was indeed guilty of attempted murder. RKO, fearing that such a conclusion would harm the reputation of Grant, one of their biggest stars, forced Hitchcock to film a happier finale; a sequel to cement Grant's angelic image, in which his character bathes blind lepers for two hours, was never filmed! The card shows both stars in Hollywood's restrained version of marital bliss, and aside from one pinhole and a couple of faint dirt marks, it's in overall pristine condition. Very Fine+.
