White straw Stetson hat worn onscreen by Susan Sarandon in the classic action/adventure film ''Thelma and Louise'', for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Sarandon stars as Louise Sawyer, one-half of the female fugitive team alongside Geena Davis. While driving through the desert toward Mexico as fugitives, Thelma and Louise pull over at a shack inhabited by an elderly man wearing the hat, to whom Louise trades her silver and turquoise jewelry for use of his water trough and the hat. In the next scene, Thelma asks Louise where she got the hat and Louise quips that she stole it. Straw Stetson hat by Resistol brand has a leather sweatband labeled in gilt with the brand name, retailer name, ''King's Western Wear of Van Nuys, Calif.'', and ''Genuine Shantung Panama'', a material made of tough paper yarn similar to straw. Features brown suede ties and three side vents. A label at the crown is inscribed in black ink, ''Car Dressing.'' Accompanied by a studio archive label that reads ''224852 B'' and ''White Straw / Cowboy hat / not band / 'Car Dressing'.'' Measures 14'' x 11'' 6''. Purposefully distressed by production.
