Surgeon’s style dress sword by M.C. Lilley Co, Colombus, OH. Fancy etched gilt blade inscribed “Major Charles A. Morse, Surgeon. 1st Regt. U.R.K.D. New Market NH”. The blade in very good to near fine condition. The sword shows fancy mounts with “MD” at top of guard, “UR” and rose at bottom of guard, fancy scroll, rose, and medical motifs. The metal portion of the scabbard shows some rust and erosion. The gilt brass shows a darkened patina. The grip is good. Morse was from a prominent family and had a long political career as a State Senator and candidate for Governor. Should be further researched. From an estate. Est: $350 - $700
