ALS signed “Tom C. Clark,” one page both sides of a 4.5 x 3.5, Supreme Court card, April 30, no year. In part: “I regret very much that it is not possible for me to reply to your inquiry concerning my views on Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos etc. These are matters of concern affecting our foreign relations and are not within my function as a Justice. My comments would be inappropriate. I decry the increasing use of drugs by our people, both young and old. It is a sign of weakness and deterioration in the mores of the nation. President Nixon has not yet served a sufficient time for one to judge his attainments as President.” Also includes an ANS penned across the text of an initial letter to him, in part: “1. I support 18 year old vote all the way. 2. I oppose capital punishment. 3. Pres. Nixon is doing the best he can. The problems are difficult and largely inherited.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope for the Supreme Court card.
