Ink and ballpoint signatures, “William H. Rehnquist” as Chief Justice and “Sandra D. O’Connor,” “Antonin Scalia,” “Clarence Thomas,” “Anthony M. Kennedy,” “Ruth Bader Ginsberg,” “John Paul Stevens,” “David Souter,” and “S. Breyer” as Associate Justices of the Supreme Court, on an off-white 8.5 x 11 sheet of Rehnquist’s Supreme Court stationery, with a block of ten three-cent commemorative postage stamps affixed to the center of the sheet. In fine condition, with a few mild ripples and slight mounting remnants to reverse top edge. Accompanied by a TLS, signed by Rehnquist, dated December 23, 1994, to Lewis Shull, former President of the American Stamp Dealers of America. Rehnquist writes, “My secretary, Janet Barnes, has shown me your letter of November 30th, respecting the possible autographing of sheets of Supreme Court stationary [sic, stationery], with Supreme Court stamps affixed, by each of the nine active Justices of the Court. I have discussed this matter informally with a couple of my colleagues, and we are of the opinion that we do not wish to do it.” Apparently the Justices finally reconsidered, with all adding their names to this impressive philatelic display.
