Politician from Georgia who served on the Supreme Court from 1835 until his death (1790–1867). ALS signed “James M. Wayne,” one page, 4.5 x 6, Supreme Court letterhead, February 11, 1862. Letter to the assistant adjutant general at the War Department. In part: “Do inform me of Gen’l Dix’s military department…and who is the officer in command at the Fort?” In fine condition, with a paperclip impression to the upper border and some show-through from mounting remnants to reverse.
