Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court (1882–1965) from 1939 to 1962. ALS, one page, 8.5 x 11, no date. Short letter written at the bottom of an August 1, 1960, TLS to Frankfurter from an author writing an article on Habeas Corpus for Reader’s Digest, asking for a specific reference. At the bottom of the letter, Frankfurter writes: “I suggest you look at the opinion of Mr. Justice Holmes, for the Court, in Moore v. Dempsey, 261 U.S. 86. I’m without a secretary, hence this mode of replying to you.” Scattered light creasing, heavier to top left corner, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Frankfurter’s hand.
