(Marvin, W.T.R.). MASONIC MEDALS. SUPPLEMENT. No place of publication [prob. Boston], undated [c. 1912]. Crown 4to, unsewn, unbound signatures. Drop title; 5-252 pages [lacking 253-(258)]; 1 halftone plate. Generally near fine. [with] Marvin, W.T.R. THE ARMS OF THE FREEMASONS AND THE SEAL OF THE GRAND LODGE OF MASSACHUSETTS. Privately printed, 1880. 8vo, self-covered. 24 pages. Fine. A very rare supplement to an already very rare book, Marvin’s Supplement is perplexing in that almost all of the copies known appear to be incomplete, as is this one (though this one is better than most, lacking only the final pages and any preliminary leaves--if indeed any were published). Based on Marvin’s ongoing work on the subject, published in the American Journal of Numismatics between 1888 and 1910. As with the main work, most of the copies of the Supplement have likely been in Masonic libraries since publication, with few to be found in numismatic channels. The Supplement was lacking from both the Champa and Bass library sales, and the example in the American Numismatic Society Library ends at page 254. The second work is a scarce publication on Masonic sigillography. Clain-Stefanelli 14218. See Davis 658.
