Superman - Mego World's Greatest Super-Heroes with Six-Faces (Marvel Mix) Box (Mego, 1972).
Superman - Mego World's Greatest Super-Heroes with Six-Faces (Marvel Mix) Box (Mego, 1972). No little boy who grew up in the '70s could possibly resist the allure of Mego's great superhero action figure line -- the stigma of "dolls for boys" had long been eradicated by GI Joe, and by this time it was perfectly cool for a kid to spur his imagination with these brightly-clad heroes. The last of the great "diverse" action figure lines (WGSH didn't feature as wide a variety of characters as the previous decade's Captain Action, but they came close), Mego's "World's Greatest Super-Heroes" did its best to live up to its hyperbolic name, producing an impressive array of characters from DC and Marvel Comics. Offered here is perhaps the most iconic, the Man of Steel himself, Superman. Standing 8" tall with a cloth uniform, Superman is the cornerstone of any Mego WGSH collection, and you could scarcely ask for a finer example than this one. The Type-1 figure is in NM condition with perfect face and hair paint. The uniform is superb, with no runs in either the cotton material or the vinyl cape; the insignia sticker has some creasing at the lower tip, but is in largely excellent condition. The boots are shiny with no splits, but the left boot has a small hole at the inner heel, which we believe was a manufacturing error. Overall, the figure appears to be virtually, if not completely free of play, and has the crisp freshness of a like-new toy. This is an early hard-to-find window box with the six faces (Batman, Superman, Robin, Aquaman, Captain America, and Tarzan) on the front panel (the same six are shown individually on the side panels), and the mix of Marvel and DC characters identifies this as an early release. The box is a solid C7/8, with very bright colors and a fresh appearance, but the cello has come loose at the bottom, and there is noticeable creasing on the front and side panels. Still, it is a gorgeous display piece, and would be a coup for any Mego collector.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
